Malcapuya Island Palawan: Powdery White Sand Island in Coron

MALCAPUYA ISLAND

Malcapuya Island was definitely one of the highlights of our recent Coron trip. We have been to a lot of beaches and nothing compares to the famous Boracay white sand, until we explored this island.

White sand beach of Malcapuya

It is located 2 hours away from the town of Coron. Most tour groups around town offer packages going to Malcapuya Island. It is usually packaged with Bulog Dos and Banana Island.

The boat ride to this island can be a little rough because of the strong waves but it’s definitely worth it. The boats will dock at the back beach which is not as nice as the main beach. A short walk will lead you to white sand beach facing west. Among all the beaches we have visited so far, Malcapuya’s sand rivals Boracay’s. It is as white and as powdery as the one in White Beach, Boracay.

There are tents along the beach if you want to take a break from the sun. Hammocks are also available. There are also tables and chairs for your lunch and snack breaks. It’s the perfect beach getaway. According to our guide, you may spend the night here. We forgot to ask about the rates. There are no hotels nor inns on the island so I guess camping is the only option.

Far from the shore, there are good snorkeling spots. Last time I visited five years ago,  my sisters and I spotted a baby shark. The beach is long and wide so overcrowding is not really a problem. If you want a more quiet spot, you may walk to the right most end of the beach less frequented by tourists. The beach here is quite rocky but still offers a great picturesque view. At the left most end is a cliff overlooking the rest of the islands including Bulog Dos and Banana Island. Just climb the stairs that leads to this magnificent view point.

There’s a decent public restroom, but don’t expect much. You can also take a bath here. Signal is not that consistent on the island.
